News India Live, Digital Desk: Today is the fourth day of the budget session of Bihar Assembly. As soon as the House proceedings began, the opposition NEET student from Jehanabad Started cornering the government regarding suspicious death in a hostel in Patna. Under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, MLAs of the Grand Alliance demonstrated strongly outside and inside the House.

Opposition’s uproar: MLAs from RJD, Congress and Left parties raised slogans in the portico of the Assembly. He accused the government of “protecting the guilty” and “tampering with evidence”.

Tejashwi Yadav’s attack: Tejashwi Yadav said that the administrative system of Bihar has completely collapsed. He raised the question that when the police was initially calling it ‘suicide’, why was a CBI investigation now recommended? Is this just an attempt to hang on to the matter?

Government’s side: Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha said in the House that the government wants a transparent investigation, that is why Chief Minister Nitish Kumar himself CBI investigation Is recommended.

NEET student death case: What happened till now?

This matter is much discussed in Bihar not only politically but also socially.

Event: On January 6, 2026, a student was found unconscious in a hostel in Patna, who died during treatment on January 11.

Police Claim vs Medical Report: Patna Police had initially termed it as ‘suicide’ due to overdose of sleeping pills. Although, Post Mortem and Forensic (FSL) Report Evidence of sexual assault and coercion was found.

Failure of SIT: The SIT formed by the police was accused of being careless with evidence (like washed bedsheets).

Case to CBI: After increasing pressure and family members meeting the DGP, 31 January 2026 Nitish government decided to hand over the investigation of the case to CBI.

Other highlights of the budget session:

Historical Budget: Earlier on February 3, Finance Minister Bijendra Yadav presented the biggest ever budget of Bihar (₹3.47 lakh crore) introduced, in which emphasis has been laid on assistance and employment to women up to ₹ 2 lakh under ‘Saat Nishchay-3’.

Anant Singh’s oath: Jailed MLA Anant Singh also took oath as a member of the House amid tight security during the same session.
