We cannot save ourselves without America, why did the new boss of NATO accept his weakness?

News India Live, Digital Desk: The new head of NATO, Europe’s largest military organization, has said something which has created a stir in the entire world, especially in European countries. Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who is soon to become NATO’s next Secretary General, has openly admitted that Europe will not be able to defend itself on its own if the US leaves.

This statement has come at a time when Europe is waking up due to the sound of the return of former US President Donald Trump.

Why did he say such a shocking thing?

Actually, this whole matter is related to Donald Trump’s threat in which he had said that America will not come to help those NATO countries who do not spend enough on their defense. NATO has a rule that all member countries must spend at least 2% of their gross income (GDP) on their military and defense. But many big countries like Germany and France have also not been able to meet this target for years.

Trump is angry about this. His logic is simple – when Europe itself is not serious about its own security, why should America bear the burden alone?

“Stop whining about Trump and spend the money!”

“We should stop complaining about Donald Trump and start spending more on our defense,” Mark Rutte said, holding up a mirror to the harsh reality of European countries.

His message was clear:

  • Complaining won’t help: Root said that if Trump wins the election, we will have to work with him. There is no use crying about them.
  • Ukraine war is a lesson: He said the Russia-Ukraine war has shown how seriously Europe needs to take its security.

It is clear that the fear of Trump’s return is haunting Europe. Mark Root’s statement is not just a warning but a ‘wake-up call’. This is a signal to Europe that now they will have to take responsibility for their own security, because there is no guarantee that America will always be with them.
