In the last election, Indira Gandhi ousted the ruling party from power and became Prime Minister for the fourth time

So far 17 Lok Sabha elections have been held in the country in which many parties have formed governments. Interesting cases of elections have come to light till now, today we will talk about the last election of India's only woman Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in which she won 353 seats and became the Prime Minister for the fourth time. In the same election the ruling party got only 31 seats. Let us know the interesting cases of that election…

Janata Party government fell in just eighteen months

The first mid-term elections in the country were held in 1971 and the second in 1980. After the crisis, due to public anger, the Janata Party formed the government, but the government fell within eighteen months. With its support, Congress made Chaudhary Charan Singh the Prime Minister but before he could reach the Parliament, Congress toppled the government. Due to which general elections were announced. Chaudhary Charan Singh was the only Prime Minister in the history of Indian democracy who could not reach Parliament even once as Prime Minister. This tenure of Lok Sabha became a period for Indira Gandhi and she could never contest elections again.

The ruling party got only 31 seats found

At this time the entire Janata Party disintegrated. Its leaders were doing politics in different ways in the name of unity. Everyone stood against each other. Voters also realized the ambition of the leaders. He saw that the hope of giving power to the Janata Party could not be fulfilled. Therefore, voters made Indira Gandhi win 353 seats in the mid-term elections. He returned to power and became Prime Minister for the fourth time and this proved to be his last election. On the other hand, the Janata Party was reduced to only 31 seats in 1980. Janata Party Secular won 41 seats. In this election, except Congress, no party could cross the 100 mark.

BJP was formed this year

After the crushing defeat of the Janata Party, Indira Gandhi took oath as Prime Minister. A few months later, Bharatiya Janata Party was formed under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a prominent leader of Bharatiya Jana Sangh. This was the second form of Bharatiya Jana Sangh established under the leadership of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Atal had strong warrior allies like Murli Manohar Joshi, Lal Krishna Advani. BJP certainly had a bad start but after a few years Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the Prime Minister of the country. He took oath three times. Once for 13 days, then for 13 months and for the third time Vajpayee completed his tenure. However, there is a huge difference between the BJP of that time and the BJP of today.

Congress lost badly in Punjab in 1977

In the 1977 elections, Congress also lost badly in Punjab. Indira Gandhi's son Sanjay Gandhi and Congress leader Giani Zail Singh supported General Singh Bhindranwale, who supported Khalistan. He campaigned for Congress in the 1980 elections. Meanwhile, when his name cropped up in a murder, the police arrested him but soon he was released from jail. After this his power increased a lot. He emerged as a hero and became a challenge to the Congress itself. Congress appointed Giani Zail Singh as President in 1982 to keep the Sikhs on its side but it was of no use. Punjab was burning.

And Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated

During the tenure of the Seventh Lok Sabha, terrorism spread in Punjab and Operation Blue Star had to be carried out. Bhindranwala had considerable reach among the Sikhs. Due to this, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated in 1984 and anti-Sikh mobs took to the streets in the country. Many people were killed across the country. Sikh shops and showrooms were burnt. However, after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, Congress registered a historic victory in the elections held under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi. No party has achieved such a victory in the democratic history of the country. This time Prime Minister Narendra Modi has definitely given the slogan of 'crossing 400'.
