Sky Dining Accident: It is said that a person even goes across the seven seas to fulfill his passion. Nowadays, there is such a craze for adventure and doing something adventurous that people start playing with danger without caring for their lives. One such hair-raising incident has come to light from Idukki district of Kerala, where ‘sky dining’ i.e. the fun of eating food hanging in the air, became a punishment for the people.
Imagine, you are sitting on a chair at a height of 120 feet, there is a deep valley below and suddenly you realize that you are stuck there – surely the ground will slip under your feet. Something similar happened in Anachal (near Munnar) when a ‘fly dining’ crane suddenly malfunctioned.
Breathing stopped at 120 feet
The incident occurred on Friday when a group of tourists were enjoying sky-dining at an adventure park near Munnar. A large platform is lifted into the air using a crane, where 16 people sit together and eat food while overlooking the valleys. Everything was going well, people were having fun, but suddenly the crane system got jammed.
The technical fault (fuse blowing of the crane) was such that the platform was neither able to go up nor come down. At that time the tourists sitting on it were at a height of about 120 feet from the ground. Within no time the atmosphere of fun turned into fear. People kept swinging in the air at the same height for about one and a half hours. You can imagine what those people and their families were going through at that time.

The good thing is that no major accident happened. As soon as the news of the machine breaking down was received, there was immediate panic. Local police and fire brigade teams were called on the spot. Engineers tried hard to fix the crane so that the platform could be lowered easily, but the matter became complicated.
Till the time of writing the news, the struggle to disembark the passengers safely was going on. The rescue team is making every possible effort, even the option of taking people down with the help of ropes is being adopted.
This incident is a lesson for all those who are fond of adventure. Technology can deceive at any time, so along with thrill, it is very important to take care of safety also.
