9 Naxalites have been killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh and the encounter is still going on. Security forces also killed two big Naxalites in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh.
Bodies and weapons of four Naxalites have been recovered from the spot.
According to the information received, Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said, the encounter took place at around 6 in the morning in the forest near Lendra village of Gangalur police station area. He further said that the team of District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action carried out this operation. The officer said that after the firing stopped, bodies of four Naxalites, a light machine gun and other weapons were recovered from the spot. The encounter is still going on in the forests of Korcholi and Leandra of Gangalur police station area.
Voting in the first phase of general elections in Bijapur on April 19
Bijapur district falls under Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, where voting will be held in the first phase of general elections on April 19. Due to which the security forces there have intensified anti-Naxal operations. On the other hand, two rewarded Naxalites have been killed in an encounter with the police in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh.

The officer said that the firing started between 9 and 10 pm on Monday night in the Kerhari forest area. According to the official, the police later started searching the area and recovered the bodies of two Naxalites, the killed Naxalites have been identified as Sajanti alias Kranti and Raghu alias Sher Singh. He said that an AK-47 rifle, a 12 bore rifle and other items have been recovered from the spot. The officer said that the search operation is going on in the area.
