New Delhi, April 2 (HS). The Supreme Court has granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh, arrested in the Delhi Excise Scam case. The bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna gave this order. The court made it clear that Sanjay Singh can take part in political activities during bail.
During the hearing, the court asked ASG SV Raju, appearing for ED, that Sanjay Singh has been in jail for 6 months. The investigating agency should tell why there is a need to keep him in jail further. The court asked Raju to come with instructions on this by 2 pm. After 2 o'clock Raju said that he had no objection to granting bail to Sanjay Singh. After that the court ordered to release Sanjay Singh on bail.
The court had issued notice to ED on 26 February. Sanjay Singh has challenged the order of Delhi High Court rejecting the bail petition. On February 7, Delhi High Court had rejected the bail plea of Sanjay Singh.
It is noteworthy that ED had arrested Sanjay Singh on October 4 after questioning him at his official residence.
