To help people living below poverty line (BPL), the government has launched five different pension schemes under the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP). NSAP is a scheme fully funded by the Central Government, which is applicable in both rural and urban areas. It is managed by the Ministry of Rural Development. Presently these five schemes are running under NSAP:
- Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS)
- Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS)
- Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS)
- National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS)
- Annapurna scheme
How to apply online for these schemes?
- Download UMANG App or visit website: https://web.umang.gov.in/web_new/home
- Login with your mobile number and OTP, or create a new account.
- Type NSAP in the search box.
- Click on Apply Online.
- Fill in your basic information, choose payment method, upload photo and submit.
Know about these five schemes
- Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension (IGNOAPS) is given to senior citizens of BPL families aged 60 years and above. Those aged between 60 to 79 years are given ₹200 per month and those aged 80 years and above are given ₹500 per month.
- Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension (IGNWPS): Widows from BPL families aged between 40 to 79 years get ₹300 per month. Those above 80 years of age get ₹500 per month.
- Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Under IGNDP, BPL persons with severe or multiple disabilities aged 18 to 79 years receive Rs 300 per month. Persons above 80 years of age get Rs 500 per month.
- National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) – If an earning member of a BPL family (18 to 59 years) dies, a lump sum assistance of Rs 20,000 is provided to the family.
- Annapurna scheme – 10 kg free food grains are provided every month to senior citizens who are eligible for IGNOAPS but are not receiving pension.
