News India Live, Digital Desk: The air quality in Delhi-NCR has deteriorated dangerously, and the situation has become like an “air emergency”. The Air Quality Index (AQI) has reached a critical level of 601, which is extremely harmful for health. Along with Delhi, the situation remains worrying in cities like Noida and Gurgaon, where even breathing has become difficult for people.

The thick layer of haze in the sky is not just fog, but a dangerous mixture of poisonous particles. AQI reaching the level of 601 indicates that the level of pollution in the air is many times higher than normal and it is dangerous for people of all ages. Breathing this air can cause serious health problems, especially for children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory diseases.

Noida and Gurgaon also in “air emergency” zone

Not only Delhi, but other big cities of NCR like Noida and Gurgaon are also badly affected by this pollution. AQI in these cities also remains in the ‘hazardous’ category, due to which these areas have been transformed into “air emergency” zones. Due to slow wind speed and change in weather, pollutants have become stagnant in the air, due to which the situation has become worse.

What does AQI 601 mean?

Air Quality Index (AQI) is a scale to measure the level of pollution present in the air.

  • 0-50: good
  • 51-100: satisfactory
  • 101-200: moderate
  • 201-300: bad
  • 301-400: very bad
  • 401-500: severe
  • 500+ : Dangerous/Emergency

AQI crossing 600 falls in the category of ‘dangerous’ or ’emergency’. This simply means that the air has become so poisonous that even healthy people may have to face problems like difficulty in breathing, irritation in the eyes, cough and sore throat.

Doctors and experts have advised people to stay indoors as much as possible and wear a good quality mask while going out. One should avoid going out especially in the morning and evening when the level of pollution is highest.
