News India Live, Digital Desk: With the mild onset of winter, the air of Uttar Pradesh and National Capital Region (NCR) has once again started becoming poisonous. The situation has become so serious that Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh has become the second most polluted city in the country, where it has become difficult for people to breathe. At the same time, the air of NCR’s major cities Noida and Greater Noida has also reached ‘very poor’ category, due to which health concerns have increased.
Meerut’s air is worst, second in the country
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data released on Sunday, Meerut’s air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 381, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category. With these figures, Meerut has become not only the most polluted city of Uttar Pradesh but also the second most polluted city in the country. The air quality in areas of the city like Jaibhim Nagar, Pallavapuram and Ganganagar has reached ‘severe’ category. Experts believe that traffic jams, dust flying on the roads and slow wind speed due to changing weather are responsible for this dangerous situation.
Noida-Greater Noida is also suffocating
Pollution levels are also continuously increasing in Noida and Greater Noida adjacent to Delhi. The average AQI of Noida has also crossed 300. The situation is even worse in areas like Sector-125, Sector-116 and Sector-62 of the city, where AQI was recorded beyond 350. Broken roads, large-scale construction work and heavy pressure of vehicles are making the air here poisonous day by day. Even in Greater Noida, AQI remains in the ‘very poor’ category in areas like Knowledge Park.
The condition of surrounding districts is also bad
This scourge of pollution is not limited to Meerut and Noida only. The air quality in other districts of NCR like Ghaziabad, Baghpat, Bulandshahr and Hapur also remains ‘very poor’. People in these cities are facing problems like burning sensation in eyes and difficulty in breathing.
Why is the air getting worse?
According to experts, the wind speed is very low at this time and the temperature has also dropped. Because of this, the pollutants emitted from vehicles and industries get deposited in the low air and are not able to spread. Apart from this, dust blowing from construction sites and burning of garbage at some places is also worsening the situation.
Doctors have advised children, the elderly and people suffering from respiratory diseases to take special precautions. He has urged people to avoid morning walks and use good quality masks while leaving the house.
