The rain on Sunday 31 March has caused huge devastation in the north-eastern states. Big news is coming from Assam amidst heavy rain and hailstorm. Actually, strong storm and heavy rains have affected the popular Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati. Due to rain, a part of the outer roof of the airport collapsed. Not only this, due to heavy rains the airport authority has stopped operations and diverted six flights.
Six flights have been diverted, an airport official said. A big tree was uprooted to block the road connecting to the airport, but the road was immediately cleared to ensure uninterrupted supplies, the official said. The official said that due to overflow of the outlet pipe, water started leaking inside the airport. He said that a part of the outer roof collapsed, although the situation is normal now.
Guwahati Airport Authority said operations have now resumed normally. Flight operations were affected this evening due to adverse weather conditions due to heavy rain and wind. Due to water and wind pressure outside the terminal building, a small part of the roof opened. However, there was no loss of life or property in this accident. A total of six flights were diverted towards Agartala and Kolkata due to adverse weather, operations have now returned to normal.
