There is a very good news for crores of farmers of the country. The government has announced many new schemes to increase the income of farmers and strengthen agriculture. This announcement has been made on the special occasion of the birth anniversary of the great socialist leader Jayaprakash Narayan. The objective of these schemes is not only to grow crops but also to promote activities related to animal husbandry, fish farming and food processing.

Let us understand in simple language what benefits you, i.e. the farmers of the country, are going to get from these schemes.

1. Now we will not have to depend on other countries for pulses: ‘Pulse Self-Reliance Mission’

The consumption of pulses in India is very high, but the production is not sufficient, due to which we have to import pulses from other countries. To eliminate this problem, the government has started ‘Pulse Self-Reliance Mission’.

  • What is the goal?: The aim of this mission is to increase the production of pulses in the country from 250 lakh tonnes to 350 lakh tonnes by 2030-31.
  • How much will it cost?: The government will spend ₹11,440 crore on this work.

What benefit will farmers get from this?

  • Farmers will get good quality seeds and new farming techniques.
  • Farmers growing pulses will be given special training, which will reduce the cost of the crop and increase the yield.
  • With the help of the government, more and more farmers will be encouraged to cultivate pulses, which will increase their income.
  • Better markets and facilities will be available for selling crops.

2. Picture of 100 backward districts will change: ‘Pradhan Mantri Dhan-Dhanya Krishi Yojana’

This scheme has been made for the development of 100 such districts of the country, where the condition of farming is not very good.

  • How much will it cost?: The government will spend ₹24,000 crore on this scheme.
  • What will be the work?: Emphasis will be laid on increasing crop production and growing different types of crops in these districts. Irrigation systems will be improved, and new warehouses will be built to store the crops.
  • Direct help to farmers: Farmers of these districts will also get loans on very easy terms for farming work.

3. Along with farming, there will be income from animal husbandry and fish farming also.

Projects worth ₹5,450 crore have also been started to promote farming as well as other related activities.

  • To increase milk production, new milk powder manufacturing factories have been started in Mehsana, Indore and Bhilwara.
  • To improve the breed of animals, training centers have been opened in Bengaluru and Jammu and Kashmir and IVF lab in Assam.
  • A factory for making fish feed has also been opened in Tezpur.
All these steps will open new avenues of earning for farmers and cattle herders.

Respect for farmers, morale will increase

During this program, the Prime Minister himself gave certificates to those farmers who are doing natural farming. Besides, he also interacted directly with some farmers growing pulses and appreciated their hard work. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan was also present on this occasion. So far, about 50 lakh farmers have joined 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), due to which they are getting better prices for their crops.
