Salesman arrested for stealing jewelery worth Rs 1.05 crore from jewelers shop in Thane

Mumbai: A salesman who stole gold jewelery worth Rs 1.05 crore from a jewelers shop in Thane has been arrested from Mira Road. The accused was caught by the police when he had come to meet his girlfriend. Investigation is going on whether any other person is also involved in this crime or not.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that accused Rahul Mehta committed theft for fun. Jewelery worth about Rs 62 lakh stolen from him has been seized.

It has been learned that Rahul, who lives near Gavdevi temple ground in Thane, is originally from Rajasthan. He was working as a salesman in the shop of jeweler Suresh Jain. At the end of the day, she kept it in a jewelery store locker. Owner Suresh Jain was keen on it. He did not inquire much but he did not come to work on March 8. So another salesman was assigned his job.

At that time news came that Rahul had stolen jewelery worth Rs 1.05 crore. In this case, the jeweler lodged a complaint at Nompada police station and different police teams were formed to arrest the accused.

The police went to Rahul's house and interrogated his family and relatives. On the other hand, on March 15, Rahul's wife complained to the police about his disappearance. To avoid the police, he switched off his mobile phone. He fled to Mumbai, Miraroad, Indore, Gujarat.

Police got information that Rahul was going to meet his girlfriend in Mira Road. The police laid a trap and arrested him.

It is suspected that he sold the stolen jewelery for fun. Police have seized jewelery worth Rs 62 lakh. While further investigation is being done to recover the remaining jewellery.
