News India Live, Digital Desk: GST Rate Reduction: You will remember, the government had taken some special decisions to see the rising inflation and to give relief to the common people, and now that clock has come! Now you will not have to think more than before while doing shopping, because from September 22, new rates of GST (GST) will be implemented across the country. Yes, this is a big news because now buyer is going to be more cheap than before. So let’s know, what special things you should know before buying anything!

The government has made our tax system more simple. Earlier there were four different GST slabs of 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, but now it has been easier to make only two slabs – 5% and 18% – only. We will get the direct benefit of this to the common consumers, because hundreds of everyday things will become cheaper.

What will be cheaper now?

Think a little, everything from your kitchen to the drawing room and even from your car can be cheaper.

  • Daily needs: Things like milk, ghee, butter, cheese have now become GST-free, and roti, chapatti, namkeen, pasta-noodles, sauces, tea-coffee and spices will also be cheap. Earlier, cheese, chhena and UHT (ultra-high temperature) used to have 5% GST, which is now zero. GST is now 0% on Khakhara, Chapati or Roti, Paratha, and Kulcha.
  • Household appliances: Steel utensils used in the house, earthen ax, wood-bamboo furniture and matches will also be available at low prices. GST on West Bengal’s some local products and handicrafts such as Darjeeling tea and processed mango products has been reduced from 12% to 5%.
  • Electronics and Automobiles: The electronics industry has also got a big relief. Things like air conditioner, TV, electric acumulator and small petrol/LPG/CNG/diesel cars will now be cheaper. GST has been reduced from 28% to 18% on small cars.
  • Health: GST has also been reduced to zero on personal health and life insurance. Apart from this, there will be no GST on 33 types of life saving medicines and medical-grade oxygen.
  • School and office goods: Sharpener, crayon, pastel, copy, notebook, pencil and eraser will also have 0% GST.

But some things will be expensive:

The cut in GST is a relief, but some things have also become expensive. Acadeted or flavored drinks, plant based milk drinks and caffeine drinks will now be taxed. The tax on flavored and freshwater drinks has been increased from 18% to 40%. If you are thinking of buying a motorcycle with a capacity of more than 350cc, then you will have to pay 40% tax on it too. Apart from this, GST has also increased from 28% to 40% on revolver, pistol, luxury ship, private jet and helicopter. Note that there is no shortage in GST on LPG cylinder. Only the old rates on Pan Masala, Gutkha, Cigarette and BD will continue.

Companies have already started taking advantage of these new GST rates. From ice cream to shampoo, many things are already getting cheaper, and companies are sending cheap stocks to shops.

So now when you go to buy anything, take care of these new GST rates. This new system is coming into effect from 22 September 2025 on the first day of Navratri. This change will not only reduce the burden on your pocket, but will also give some relief from inflation!
