Kolkata, 30 March (Hindustan Reporter). Shahjahan Sheikh has been arrested for the third time. He was arrested first by the state police and then by the CBI. This time he has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Shahjahan has been arrested for not cooperating in the investigation of the financial corruption case.
However, the Trinamool leader of Sandeshkhali is already in jail before his arrest by ED. His CBI custody ended this week. Since then Shahjahan is in Basirhat jail. On Saturday, ED had applied in the court seeking permission to interrogate him inside the jail. After getting permission from Basirhat court, ED officials came to interrogate Shahjahan in the afternoon but it is alleged that he refused to answer any questions, after which he was arrested by ED in the afternoon.
Apart from ration corruption, ED has also found evidence of Shahjahan's involvement in another corruption case. During investigation they came to know that Shahjahan had resorted to corruption in the business of import and export of fish. Apart from this, ED's lawyer claims that Shahjahan's assets worth Rs 32 crore 30 lakh have also been traced.
According to ED sources, the officials also want to know the source of these crores of rupees but Shahjahan was arrested for not answering the questions related to him.
