Dehradun, 30 March (HS). Jhanda Sahib was hoisted on Saturday with devotional songs and praises of Guru Ram Rai Maharaj. A crowd of devotees gathered at Darbar Sahib to witness the Mahakumbh of faith. Lakhs of Sangats and residents of Doon bowed their heads with reverence and stood with folded hands in front of the flag. Everyone was filled with devotion and emotion by bowing before Jhanda Sahib and having the darshan of Guru Ram Rai Maharaj.

There was not even space to keep sesame seeds in the Darbar Sahib complex and surrounding areas. As the process of covering the flag with gilaf increased, the enthusiasm of the Sangats and the people of Doon also reached its peak. As soon as the Darshani Gilaf was put up and the process of hoisting the flag started, the sound of cheers for Maharaj became louder. On Saturday evening, at 4:10 pm, as soon as the throne of Darbar Sahib Dehradun, Mahant Devendra Das Maharaj, gave the message to start the process of ascension, the entire Drona city echoed with the cheers of Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj. The hoisting of the flag was completed at 4.25 pm. The Sangats and residents of Doon chanted the praises of Guru Ram Rai Ji Maharaj and danced vigorously on the beat of the drum. During this time, an eagle also circled the flagpole. This miraculous appearance of the eagle at the time of ascension is recorded every year as the astral presence of Guru Ram Rai Maharaj. At the same time, the people of Doon, drenched in happiness, started dancing. With this, the historical and cultural heritage flag fair of Dehradun was formally inaugurated.

On Saturday morning, even before the first rays of the sun had hit the earth, the Darbar Sahib complex and the surrounding area was filled with devotees and residents of Doon. The morning drizzle and rain was accepted by the Sangats and devotees as blessings of Guru Ram Rai Maharaj. The participants gathered under the flag to lower it. Watching the descent and then ascent was a wonderful and unique sight in itself. To acquire this virtue, Sangats from India and abroad eagerly wait for this auspicious time throughout the year.

Special puja had started from 7 am itself. At eight in the morning the flag was lowered and prayers were offered. In the morning, the Sangats bathed Jhande ji (sacred flag pole) with milk, ghee, honey, Ganga water and Panchgabyas. The process of first putting plain and chenille covers on the 90 feet high flag started. The special thing is that during this entire process the flag is not kept on the ground even for a moment. The companions hold the flag in their hands.

The process of hoisting the Darshani Gilaf on the flag started at around 1.30 in the afternoon. Seeing this scene, the eyes of the Sangats and people of Doon brimmed with reverence. Everyone seemed eager to earn virtue by touching the Darshani Gilaf.

May the blessings of Guru Ram Rai Maharaj always remain with the countrymen.
