According to the Hindu calendar, Jitiya fast is kept every year on the Ashtami date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month. This festival is of three days, which starts with ‘Nahai-Khay’ on Saptami Tithi, Ashtami is kept fast and Navami is observed.

According to the Panchang, Ashtami Tithi will start at 05:04 am on September 14 and will end at 03:06 am on 15 September.

Why is this fast so special?

The main day of Jitiya fast is Ashtami Tithi, when mothers observe ‘Nirjala’ fast without eating anything. This fast is observed to wish the child’s long life, good health and a happy life. It is believed that any mother who observes this fast with full devotion and faith, she never has to bear the disconnection of her child in life. On this day there is a law of worship of Lord Jemutavahana.

It is believed that worshiping the Peepal tree on the day of Jitiya fast is very fruitful. It is said that the Peepal tree has the abode of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, who take all the sorrows.[7] For remedy, go to the Peepal tree on the day of fasting, light a lamp of cow’s ghee and offer sweets. After this, while revolving around the tree, pray for getting children.
