The agitating farmers are demanding guarantee of minimum support price (MSP). The farmers' movement is gaining momentum regarding MSP and other demands. Meanwhile, it has been learned that the government may propose to form a committee on MSP, which will include government officials and representatives of farmer organizations. According to the press report, this committee will discuss other issues including MSP. Names can be sought from farmer organizations to decide who will be included in this panel. According to sources, the government believes that the demands of farmers need to be discussed with state governments and other government and non-government organizations associated with the agriculture sector.
According to the report, a committee was earlier formed to deal with the demands of the farmers. Farmer organizations did not reveal the names of their representatives to the panel headed by Sanjay Aggarwal. Now that the farmers' movement has started again, there is talk of forming a panel again. However, it remains to be seen whether the agitating farmers agree to the suggestion of forming a panel or not. In fact, farmers' organizations are adamant on the demand that there should be no further delay in guaranteeing MSP from the government.
Government should issue an ordinance to give legal guarantee to MSP
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has demanded before the Central Government that an ordinance should be brought to give legal guarantee to MSP. His statement has come at a time when the fourth talks are going to be held between farmer leaders and Union ministers on Sunday. Pandher said that the Center has the right to take political decisions. If the government wants, it can issue an ordinance overnight.
