Mumbai: A clash broke out between two groups at a meeting of the Maratha community to decide candidates for the Lok Sabha elections in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad). More police force was immediately deployed and the place was said to be under control by noon.
Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil had recently appealed to the Maratha community in his village Antarwali Sarti to decide which candidates should be fielded in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
After this appeal, a meeting was organized today on behalf of the Maratha community at Maratha Mandir Hall in HUDCO area of Sambhaji Nagar. While the discussion was going on, a fight broke out among some of the organizers. Then the matter escalated. The atmosphere became tense after the video of this incident went viral.
Immediately after this clash the team of CIDCO police station reached. To prevent the matter from escalating, more police force was arranged for the seizure. Originally there was a fight between two people, but the matter was resolved. A worker of the Maratha community who came out after participating in this meeting said that we had come to discuss the issue of preparing the list of possible candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. The list of these possible candidates was to be sent to Manoj Jarange. But instead of talking, fighting started. Only some prominent people of Maratha society do all this.
Another Maratha activist said in a dissatisfied tone that Maratha Kranti Morcha had taken out its first silent protest march in 2016 demanding reservation, since then we have been together in the struggle. But now they ask us who are you? In such a situation, fights are increasing even today.
