Mumbai: On Thursday 28th, 25,829 MW electricity was consumed across Maharashtra. This is a record of consumption of 25,829 MW electricity in a day. In April 2023, 25,437 MW electricity was consumed in the entire state.
This information was given by sources of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL).
These sources also informed that in March itself the temperature in the state is being recorded more than 40 degrees Celsius. As a result, the use of fans (electric fans) and other electronic appliances including air conditioners is increasing in homes, commercial establishments, shops, large malls, cinema halls, etc. As a result, power consumption is also increasing. Electricity consumption is increasing in the state in March itself.
When there are still three months of summer i.e. April, May, June left, if the state records even higher summer temperatures or faces severe heat, then there is a possibility that electricity consumption may still increase.
At present, Maharashtra generates 8,492 MW of electricity. Besides this, MSE, DCL also purchases 10,626 MW power at market price from other private power generators in the state.
These sources also informed that in such a situation, we are conscious about adequate production of electricity and its systematic distribution. This system is becoming a challenge for us. Anxiety may increase especially in the coming April and May. There will be a heat wave in the state, if such a situation arises and electricity consumption increases, then we are already preparing for that also.
