Kishanganj, 27 March (Hindustan Reporter). While Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, founder of Jan Adhikar Party Loktantrik, surprised everyone by merging his party with Congress in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, his insistence on contesting the elections from Purnia Lok Sabha constituency itself put the entire grand alliance including Congress in a dilemma.
Till the first day of nomination for the Lok Sabha elections on March 28, party leaders and workers from Purnia to Delhi kept fighting over his seat. Why is there so much confusion over Pappu Yadav? This is possible only because of his history and his art of capturing the pulse of the voters. If you want to understand why seat sharing is stuck, then you will first have to know the history of Rajesh Ranjan.
Please note that Pappu Yadav, who had a tremendous hold on Yadav voters and the poor, entered Indian politics in the year 1990. Born on 24 December 1969 in a landlord family in Khurdakarveli village of Kumarkhand, Bihar, Rajesh Ranjan started his political career from Singheshwar in Madhepura and contested his first election as an MLA from there 34 years ago. Exactly one year later, in the general elections held in 1991, Pappu Yadav filed nomination as an independent candidate from Purnia Lok Sabha constituency and he won. Since then Pappu Yadav never looked back.
Four years after winning the election as an independent candidate from Purnia Lok Sabha seat and 5 years after winning the election as MLA from Sinheshwar seat, Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav once again returned to Sinheshwar for his political pitch but the MLA and The time that passed between becoming MP also changed the political equation in Sinheshwar for him. Pappu Yadav had to face defeat from Sinheshwar seat in the 1995 assembly elections. After the defeat as MLA candidate, Pappu Yadav once again returned to Purnia and in the year 1996, SP fielded him as its candidate. He won this election and reached Delhi as MP for the second time. In the year 1999, Pappu Yadav nominated for the Lok Sabha elections for the third time. This time once again he filed election nomination as an independent candidate. In this election, he was elected member of Lok Sabha from Purnia seat for the third time.
After this, in the year 2004, Pappu Yadav started looking for a way into the corridors of politics with the help of the flame of Lalu Prasad Yadav's lantern. In the general elections held this year, RJD gave him ticket from Madhepura and he won the election. Exactly 10 years later, in 2014, despite the Modi wave, Pappu Yadav defeated not only BJP but also four-time MP from Madhepura seat Sharad Yadav by a margin of 50 thousand votes. Just a year after defeating JDU's strong leader Sharad Yadav in the 16th Lok Sabha elections, RJD expelled Pappu Yadav, who was an MP on the party ticket. RJD expelled him from the party due to anti-party activities but this year Pappu Yadav received the Best MP award.
After being expelled from RJD, Pappu Yadav opened a front against RJD and JDU and formed his own party. After forming the party, he contested the elections from Madhepura in the year 2019 on his own party's ticket, but he lost the election. He received only 8 percent votes and was defeated by JDU's Dinesh Chandra Yadav in the 17th Lok Sabha elections.
