What did the lawyers say in the letter?
Lawyers say that this particular group tries to influence the functioning of the judiciary in many ways. These range from presenting a false narrative about the so-called golden age of the judiciary to questioning the current functioning of the courts and undermining public confidence in the courts. The letter also said that the group praises or criticizes court decisions depending on its political agenda. This group believes in the 'my way or the highway' principle. Besides, these people have also created the theory of bench fixing.
Lawyers demand concrete steps from CJI
Lawyers said it is very strange that a leader accuses someone of corruption and later defends him in court. If the court's decision is not as per their wish, then they start criticizing the court inside the court or even through the media. The letter said that some elements are trying to influence the judges and put pressure on them to give verdicts in their favor in some cases and this is being done by spreading lies on social media. We urge the CJI and the Supreme Court to take concrete steps to protect our courts from such attacks.
