News India Live, Digital Desk: The Swedish-Chinese entrepreneur Carl Pai, known as the co-founder of OnePlus and currently the head of the tech brand Nathing, recently shared an adventure opinion on Indian cuisine. On X (East Twitter), he wrote, “Indian food in London is better than Indian food in India,” as well as posted a creamy curry picture, which many people considered butter chicken.
In a follow-up comment, Pei revealed that the dish was from the Michelin-Star Indian restaurant Jamawar, located in the Upskale Mefare area of London. This restaurant is known for its fine food on Indian classics and has received praise for its modern view of traditional cuisine.
Payi’s post immediately went viral, Due to which discussion started between food enthusiasts and social media users. While some people supported his statement, others expressed strong disagreement over it.
Many X users agreed with his views, they said that Indian food in London is often better than food found in India – especially when it is about presentation, atmosphere and stability. One user commented, “This is not a hot idea. It is a common idea. Many Indians have told me the same thing.”
Others reported that this version of Indian food is often made to the Western taste and may not reflect the authentic regional cooking of India. Another user said, “That food is adapted to the taste of Western people.”
Some Indians were not happy on X. He argued that Pei’s statement was prematurely and invited him to experience real Indian food at local favorite places across the country before pronounced the decision. “Well, so you have not eaten at any good place in India,” a user wrote.
The debate also promoted comparison with other cuisine. A user jokingly said, “Hot Tech: Chinese food in India is better than Chinese food in China,” shows how regional adaptations often change global culinary experiences.
