Varun Gandhi reaction: The first reaction of sitting MP Varun Gandhi after getting the ticket from BJP has come to light. Varun Gandhi announced on Wednesday that he will not contest the Lok Sabha elections from Pilibhit seat.
Varun Gandhi said- Despite all the honest contributions I have made to my constituency and the welfare of its people without any discrimination, what happened to me was something I did not expect. BJP spokesperson said- Jitin Prasad has filed his nomination on Wednesday, which marks the end of the nomination process.
Pilibhit has been the stronghold of BJP MP Maneka since 1989 and then Varun Gandhi, who won his first Lok Sabha victory from this parliamentary constituency under the Janata Dal banner. He lost the 1991 election but won the Pilibhit seat again in 1996 and won the seat again in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2004.
In 2009, he handed over the reins to Varun Gandhi who won on the BJP election symbol. Maneka Gandhi shifted to Sultanpur Lok Sabha seat in 2009, returned to Pilibhit in 2014 and won from Sultanpur again in 2019. This will be the first election since 1989 when Maneka Gandhi and her son Varun Gandhi will not contest from Pilibhit.
