Foreign Ministry summoned American diplomat over Kejriwal's remarks, said- 'Do not interfere in internal affairs'

India summoned US diplomat: The Indian External Affairs Ministry has expressed disappointment over the US response to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In this matter, the Foreign Ministry called America's acting mission vice president, Gloria Barbena.

According to news agency ANI, Gloria Barbena spent about 40 minutes in the Ministry of External Affairs. India has expressed strong objection to the remarks of the US State Department spokesperson.

The Ministry of External Affairs has said that we are expressing our concern over the comments of the US State Department spokesperson regarding some legal proceedings in India. Diplomacy requires states to respect the sovereignty and internal affairs of others.

It has been further said by the Ministry of External Affairs that, 'This responsibility is greater in case of democracy. Otherwise it could set an unhealthy precedent. India's legal processes are based on an independent judiciary, committed to objective and timely results. The Foreign Ministry said that it is not appropriate to raise objection on this.
