Earlier, Congress leader in Punjab Ravneet Bittu resigned from the party and joined BJP.

In Punjab, both Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are going to contest the elections alone. It is said that Sushil Kumar Rinku was earlier in Congress and had won the assembly elections from Jalandhar West seat in 2017. Aam Aadmi Party has made Rinku its candidate in the by-election to be held on Jalandhar seat in 2023 and he has been representing this seat for the last one year.
Election Commission announced the election dates on Saturday

A total of 96.88 crore voters are registered in the country in this election. The Election Commission had decided to declare the results of all these elections on June 4, but later it changed the dates of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh and decided to declare the results on June 2.
