In a major administrative reshuffle just ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, the country's well-known IPS officer Sadanand Vasant has been appointed as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Similarly, IPS Piyush Anand has been made the DG of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). He will replace Dinkar Gupta. Dinkar Gupta is scheduled to retire on March 31.
The central government has issued orders related to these appointments on Wednesday (27 March). There is also news that IPS Rajiv Kumar Sharma has been made DG in Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD).
Maharashtra cadre IPS officer Sadanand Vasant is known for his tough decisions. He is currently the head of ATS in Mumbai. He was appointed IG of CRPF in 2015. This was the time when there was Naxalite violence in many parts of the country including Chhattisgarh, after which an armed campaign was launched.
IPS Sadanand Vasant is a 1990 batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer. He is posted on the Naxalite front in Gadchiroli, Chhattisgarh. In February 2015, he was promoted to the post of IG in CRPF. He was made the Special IG of CRPF. After this he remained on deputation as DG in CRPF for five years. Now he has been given the command of NIA.
The special thing is that currently NIA is investigating terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists in Punjab and Khalistani violence in America, Britain, Canada and other parts of the world as well as PFI and terrorist activities across the country. It is believed that with the arrival of IPS Sadanand Vasant, these campaigns will gain momentum.
