Balochistan Conflict: Question on Pakistan’s failure and international community silence

News India Live, Digital Desk: Balochistan Conflict: Before 1947 Balochistan British was part of India. It consisted of directly ruled regions by the British – such as the Chief Commissioner Province – and the princely states, which were under the British suzerainty. When the British left, Kalat announced independence on August 15, 1947 and signed an agreement with Pakistan.

But in March 1948, the Pakistani Army forced Khan of Kalat to sign the document of merger. Many Baloch leaders say this was done under pressure and without the consent of the people. The belief – that Balochistan was illegally added – still promotes the separatist movement.

Divided land, neglected people

Balochistan is a huge, drought and bumpy area extending to Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan. The largest part of it is in South-Western Pakistan, which covers 44% of its land, but only 5% of its population lives here.

Despite being rich in coal, gold, copper, gas and minerals, Balochistan remains the least developed region in Pakistan. Roads, hospitals, schools and job opportunities are very few. Local people say they are being exploited – their land has been taken, but nothing has been returned.

Decades rebellion

Since the merger in Pakistan in 1948, Baloch people have repeatedly revolted: 1948, in the 1950s, in the 1960s, a major rebellion in the 1970s and a new rebellion since 2003.

Pakistan has always responded to using military force. Thousands of Balochs were arrested, tortured or disappeared. Families are still waiting for the missing loved ones.

Emergence of armed groups

Over time, many militant groups have been formed, the most prominent of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). Other include Baloch Republican Army (BRA), Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF) and Baloch Republican Guards (BRG). They target: Pakistani military posts, police stations and gas pipelines,

These groups have been united under a joint command called Bras – Baloch Raji Aajoi Sangar – to better coordinate their attacks.

The kidnapped train shook Pakistan

On 11 March 2025, the BLA hijacked a train with 400 passengers in the hills between Quetta and Sibi. Women and children were released, but the militants demanded the release of jailed colleagues.

Pakistan refused and started a 24 -hour military operation. Officially, 21 civilians and four soldiers were killed – but informal reports indicate more casualties. Shortly thereafter, Baloch groups started counter -attacks throughout the region.

The incident showed that the rebels are now able to face better, more organized and distinctive forces.

May 2025: BLA huge attack

On May 10, the Indian news agency ANI reported that the BLA has carried out 71 attacks in 51 places in Balochistan. These attacks included military hideouts, intelligence centers, police posts, highways and mineral transport convoys.

According to the BLA, its goal was to test the battlefield coordination, gain control over the region and prepare for a big war.

Message to India: “We are ready from West”

On May 11, BLA spokesman Jind Baloch released a direct message to India. He accused Pakistan of using fake peace talks to fool the world and offered a bold proposal:

“If India decides to deal with Pakistan and end its terrorist activities forever, the BLA is ready to emerge from the Western Front. We will not just support India – we will fight together with it.”

It was not just a rhetoric-it was a thoughtful political move, inviting India to see Balochistan as an ally against terrorism.

Iran also involved in fighting

Baloch population lives in Sistan and Balochistan province of Iran. Militant groups such as Jaish al-Aadal have attacked the Iranian army. In December 2023, 11 Iranian policemen were killed in one such incident.

In January 2024, Iran carried out missile attacks in Balochistan, Pakistan, claiming that they were targeting terrorists. Pakistan retaliated the next day. This was one of the rare open military exchanges between the two neighbors-showing how dangerous the Baloch issue has become.

China’s headache: CPEC in danger

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is the center of China’s belt and road initiative. But it passes through Baloch land and the local people were not consulted in this regard.

Chinese citizens have already been killed in attacks: suicide bombings at Karachi University and bus bombings near Dasu Dam site.

China is now allegedly considering using private military contractors to protect its projects in Pakistan.

Educated rebel and digital war

The new face of the Baloch movement is educated, technology-lover and media-smart. During train kidnapping, the BLA used social media to present its version of events globally.

This movement is no longer a tribal. Middle class Baloch youth are also joining it, giving the rebellion modern.

Protest of people beyond guns

Baloch struggle is not just about bullets. It is also about basic rights – clean water, fuel, fishing, education and justice. In 2023, Baloch women staged a massive protest against the deaths in judicial killings and custody.

Local people say that they have been displaced due to projects like Gwadar port and they fear that there will be demographic changes due to the settlement of outsiders in the area.

A broken political system

Pakistan’s politics is deeply entangled with the army. After the army action on former Prime Minister Imran Khan, many Pakistani sees the current government as puppet rule.

This reduces the chances of any serious interaction with Baloch leaders. Until Pakistan shares power and resources, anger will increase in Balochistan.

Crisinted region, the world will have to see

The situation in Balochistan is no longer the problem of Pakistan. The region has now become an important issue strategically due to China’s CPEC investment, Iran’s missile attacks and the direct message from BLA to India.

Baloch people have been suffering quietly for decades. His voice is getting faster – not only with guns, but also from the demands of respect, justice and freedom. The world should listen. If she does not listen, the next explosion can shake not only Pakistan, but the whole of South Asia.
