Chandigarh: Ravneet Singh Bittu, current MP from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency and grandson of former Chief Minister late Beant Singh, bid goodbye to Congress and joined BJP today. He took membership of BJP in Delhi. He is considered a big face in Congress. He was very close to Rahul Gandhi.
Ravneet Singh Bittu, the sitting Congress MP from Ludhiana, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Party General Secretary Vinod Tawde has joined the party at the BJP headquarters in Delhi. BJP is calling it a big achievement and its leaders believe that after separating from Shiromani Akali Dal, the party will now contest elections strongly on those seats where the party had no strategy.
Earlier, Congress MP Preneet Kaur had joined BJP and the party is making full preparations to field her from Patiala. Similarly, party MLA from Chabewal seat of Hoshiarpur district, Dr. Raj Kumar Chabewal has joined Aam Aadmi Party and at present he is a strong contender from Hoshiarpur seat.
Ravneet Singh Bittu was MP three times
Ravneet Bittu was a big face of Congress in Punjab. He has been an MP three times and if he gets the BJP ticket in 2024, he will contest the elections for the fourth time. Ravneet Bittu is the grandson of former chief minister Beant Singh, who lost his life in the fight to end terrorism. Bittu has also been the deputy leader of the party in the Lok Sabha. He has been protesting a lot in the Lok Sabha regarding the ongoing movement regarding the three farmer laws and has also been taking part in the debate on it, but during the movement, when the extremists were seen overpowering the movement, he also gave a statement against them. …
He contested from Sri Anandpur Sahib in 2009 and from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019.
Ravneet Bittu was a part of Rahul Gandhi's Youth Brigade in 2009, to which he was given the ticket. Apart from Bittu, Vijay Inder Singla has been given ticket from Sangrur and Sukhwinder Singh Danny from Faridkot from Rahul Gandhi's quota. In 2009 he contested from Sri Anandpur Sahib and then won from Ludhiana in 2014 and 2019. But for a long time he could not meet the local MLAs of Ludhiana, especially their most important leader Bharat Bhushan Ashu. Consideration is being made to shift them from Ludhiana to Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Bittu also had good relations with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and it is believed that he may join the Aam Aadmi Party and contest elections from Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. But when Aam Aadmi Party removed its cabinet minister Gurmeet Hayer, his chances of joining AAP were lost.
Ravneet Bittu was not confident about Congress's victory
Ravneet Bittu does not see his victory clearly after contesting elections in Congress, hence he has started exploring new possibilities. Due to this, he prepared to join the Bharatiya Janata Party. They had talked a long time ago. A senior BJP leader said that he may be given a ticket from Ludhiana.
New equations are being created in Punjab politics
In fact, today the possibilities of alliance between Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP have completely ended and new equations are being formed. Till now BJP is contesting only three out of 13 seats in Punjab. In such a situation, the party is now looking for big faces for the remaining seats. He has got two faces in the form of Ravneet Bittu and Praneet Kaur. Sources have revealed that a big face of Aam Aadmi Party may also join BJP tomorrow. Apart from this, in rural seats where BJP does not have the support base, some other big faces of Congress can also be fielded by giving them tickets.
