Kolkata, 17 February (HS). Former Indian and Bengal cricketer Manoj Tiwari has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket after the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Bihar.
Tiwary, who made his debut for Bengal in 2004, has scored nearly 10,000 first-class runs at an average of 48.56, including 29 centuries and 45 half-centuries. He has scored 5581 runs in 169 List A games at an average of 42.28.
Manoj Tiwari wrote on X on Saturday, “Hello everyone, so… this is probably one last time on my beloved 22 yard pitch! I will miss everything about it! Thank you for encouraging and loving me for so many years. It would be great if you all come to my favorite Eden Garden tomorrow and the day after to cheer for Bengal. A loyal servant of cricket, yours Manoj Tiwari.”
Tiwary had to wait for three years after making his debut for India in an ODI against Australia in 2008. After this, he got some opportunities in 2011 and 2012. He scored his only century in his 12-match ODI career against West Indies in Chennai in December 2011. , In 2014, after once again being dropped and battling several injuries, he was included in the squad for one ODI in Bangladesh. He played his final series in Zimbabwe in July that year.
Tiwary played for Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) and Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL.
Tiwary, who hails from Bengal, caught everyone's attention with his early performances in domestic cricket, especially in the 2006–07 Ranji Trophy where he scored 796 runs at an average of 99.50 and broke several records as well.
His long-awaited debut for India was awaited, but fate had other plans. Tiwary suffered a serious shoulder injury during fielding practice on the eve of his first match against Bangladesh in Mirpur, delaying his international debut, and when the opportunity finally came against Australia in early 2008, Brett Lee It proved difficult for him to face such players.
