Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu will have to control his stubbornness and talk to neighboring India to deal with the economic challenges. This has not been said by any Indian leader but by former Maldives President Ibrahim Mohammad Solih himself. Solih's comments come at a time when Maldivian President Muizzu is being seen as a pro-China leader across the world. Ibrahim Solih has also appealed to India to provide some relief to repay the debt of Maldives.
While discussing with Maldivian media, Solih said that India's debt has no role in the economic challenges facing Maldives. Maldives owes China 18 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa, while India owes only 8 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa. In case of India, Maldives will have to pay in 25 years. However, I think our neighbors will help us. But for this we will have to leave our stubbornness and talk. There are many parties that can help us. But Muizzju does not want to make any compromise.
26 Indian soldiers left from Maldives
The former President said, 'The government is cheating the people and restarting the projects started during the MDP government. He said that the minister is now telling lies to hide that lie. He has demanded complete withdrawal by May 10 of the 88 Indian military personnel deployed at three aviation platforms used for humanitarian and medical evacuation in Maldives. The first batch of 26 Indian Army personnel have already left the island nation and have been replaced by civilians. In his first media interview, Muizzu had claimed that he had not taken any action or made any statement that would strain relations between the two countries.
