Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) can play an important role in half a dozen Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal. Before the elections, Trinamool Congress is wary of BJP's strategy on these seats. Experts say that he is likely to play an important role in at least eight Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal.
One decision will have a big impact on 5 seats…
It is believed that this decision will affect at least five seats in Nadia and North 24 Parganas districts in Bengal. Whereas two to three seats in the northern region of the state will also have political and electoral impact. Matua in South Bengal and Rajbanshi and Namasudra in North Bengal. If CAA had not been implemented as promised in the 2019 election manifesto, BJP could have suffered losses here.
Which community wants citizenship…?
Here Matua, Rajbanshi, Naamshudra want citizenship. The Matua community is a Hindu refugee group who came to India during and after the partition years. No exact figures are available but the number of people of Matua community is considerable. He is believed to be present in at least five Lok Sabha constituencies in South Bengal.
BJP is likely to get a big advantage
Rajbanshis and Namasudras are numerically smaller groups, which also include Hindu refugees from Bangladesh. He was with BJP in the last elections. They are spread across Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Balurghat constituencies.
