New Delhi: In the latest bulletin of the Central Water Commission, concern has been expressed about the reduction in the amount of water before summer. Compared to last year, this year there is less water left before summer. According to the report presented on the basis of water level of 150 big reservoirs of the country, now only 38 percent water is left, hence there is a fear of water shortage everywhere in summer.
Water has become a serious threat in Bengaluru. There are more than 14 thousand borewells in Bengaluru, out of which 6900 i.e. half have dried up.
Bengaluru currently gets only 500 MLD of water against the daily requirement of 2600 MLD, resulting in severe shortage. A warning has been issued to ensure that a situation like Bengaluru does not occur in the entire country. According to the latest bulletin of the Central Water Commission, less water has increased in 150 major reservoirs of the country this year as compared to last year.
The storage capacity of 150 reservoirs is 257 billion cubic metres. Out of this, major states like Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Telangana have a capacity of 178 billion cubic meters. At present only 38 percent of the total water storage capacity is left in the country. More water was saved in the same period last year. According to the report, the current quantity is 67.591 billion cubic meters. Last year, 80.557 billion cubic meters of water was saved before summer. However, many states faced water shortage. This time, if the quantity increases less than that, the water crisis will deepen.
The average storage capacity of the country has decreased by 39 percent compared to last year. There has been an average decline of 32 percent in a decade. There is a danger of water crisis due to decreasing storage year after year.
