The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a heavy fine on Air India. This action has been taken by Air India for violating rules during flight. DGCA has taken this action after this was revealed in the January audit. Air India has been accused of violating crew safety guidelines.
Air India was negligent in providing adequate rest to the crew. Under this, the crew was neither getting the required weekly leave nor being given rest before and after the flight. Apart from this, excessive duty hours and wrongly maintained training records were also found.
Such a violation by Air India could pose a major threat to the safety of the aircraft and passengers. On the basis of evidence and witnesses in this case, DGCA has imposed a fine of Rs 80 lakh on Air India Limited.
DGCA had earlier taken action against Air India. In February, an elderly passenger died due to non-availability of a wheelchair. After this, DGCA issued a notice to Air India and asked the reason. After this the authority imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh.
