Bollywood's top actor Govinda is now going to start his second innings in politics. A few days ago he met Eknath Shinde of Maharashtra. Since then speculations had started that he might contest the Lok Sabha elections from North-West Mumbai seat. Eknath Shinde faction has claimed to contest elections on that seat. In the distribution of seats with BJP, that seat may go to the account of Eknath Shinde group. In such a situation, Eknath Shinde can field Govinda from this seat. At present Gajanan Kirtikar of Shinde faction is the MP on this seat. But Eknath Group does not want to give him another chance.
In case Gajanan Kirtikar does not get another chance, BJP wanted that seat to go to BJP's account. But now the situation has changed. If Govinda enters the electoral battle, it will be his second innings.
Earlier in the year 2004, Congress had fielded him. He defeated the then Prime Minister Ram Naik. Ram Naik was MP for five consecutive terms. After defeating him, Govinda came into limelight. Govinda won by 50 thousand votes.
However, the first innings of politics did not prove to be very good for Govinda. He did not stay in the constituency for long. People were accusing him of not coming to the parliamentary constituency. Govinda also says that entering politics was his mistake and it had a negative impact on his film career. Ultimately Govinda left politics. When he was an MP, the film Partner was released in 2007. In the year 2009, he distanced himself from politics saying that politics was a waste of time.
Govinda has been away from the film industry for a long time. From time to time, he has been seen in many TV shows but after meeting CM Shinde, he is planning to enter politics again.
