There is a tradition of worshiping Holika before lighting the fire on Holi. For this, while worshiping Holika, one should sit facing east or north. People also put barley grains, mustard seeds and wheat ears in the sacred fire of Holika. It is said that doing this brings happiness and peace in the house.
On this day, while burning Holika, people want to burn all their sorrows in fire. Although the festival of Holi is celebrated with great pomp, but a special type of worship is performed on the day of Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi. What to do on the day of Holika Dahan?
- There is a tradition of performing Holika Puja in the morning before Holika Dahan and this puja should always be done at an auspicious time.
- The festival of Holika Dahan is celebrated on the full moon day of Phalgun month and there is also a tradition of observing fast on this day. So you can keep fast on this day.
- According to astrology, if you want happiness, prosperity and peace in your home, then light a ghee lamp in the north direction of the house on the day of Holika Dahan. Doing this is considered very auspicious.
- On the morning of Holika Dahan, mustard seeds, sesame seeds, 11 cow dung cakes, whole sugar, wheat grains and 7 wheat ears are used in Holika puja.
- After worshiping Holika, water should be offered while circling Holika 7 times. Donating after this is considered very auspicious.
What not to do on the day of Holika Dahan?
- One should not lend money to anyone even by mistake on the day of Holika Dahan. According to astrology, doing this does not bring blessings to the house. Therefore, try to avoid money transactions on this day.
- One should not wear black and white clothes while worshiping Holika Dahan. Wearing these colors during puja is considered inauspicious. During the puja, you can wear yellow, orange, pink etc. colored clothes.
- Women should not tie their hair during Holika Dahan Puja, that is, Holika is worshiped with bare hair. After this, women can tie their hair anytime.
- According to religious beliefs, a newly married girl should not see the fire of Holika Dahan in her in-laws' house on her first Holi. This is not considered auspicious.
