Washington: In an unprecedented step to reduce the number of US government employees, President Donald Trump has offered seven months salary to all federal employees who voluntarily quit their jobs till 6 February.

Government’s Personnel Management Office-OPM-Ne also urged the agency heads to submit interim recommendations for revival of their employees within ninety days. On the other hand, measures taken by the Biden administration in 2024 for the protection of federal employees have been canceled by Trump’s executive order. Thus, due to Trump’s order, 3 million federal i.e. central government employees have been discharged. On the other hand, Aleret Kelly, president of the American Federation of Government Employees Union, said that it is not a proposal for voluntary resignation, but a proposal to quit the job. Employees who do not consider a new administration loyal, their jobs are ending. These government actions can have unexpected results that can cause major upheaval in the lives of Americans dependent on the federal government. Amidst anti -employee executive orders and policies, it is clear that the Trump administration aims to deteriorate the atmosphere of the federal government to the extent where employees cannot expect it.

According to a study, the average tenure of federal employees is twelve years. Currently the number of federal employees is 30 lakhs. If any of them accept this proposal, the economy is likely to be damaged. Due to which there can be a huge upheaval in the society. Federal services are also likely to be interrupted in the country. Health workers working in the department of veteran affairs, officers processing loans for small businesses, and contractor supplying modern weapons to the army, if they all accept proposals, their jobs may be interrupted. The government may also lose experienced scientists in experienced food inspectors and water supply testing, and work ranging from air travel to consumer protection may be disrupted.

Four orders are prominent in a memorandum emailed by OPM acting director Charles Azel. Which includes most government employees to return to full -time office. Apart from this, excellent performance will be emphasized at every level. Some government departments will increase the number of employees, but most of the federal agencies will reduce their employees’ levels. The memorandum states that appropriate action will be taken against the employees who are found involved in illegal activities.

Email also includes resignation for those who want to accept the proposal. The memorandum states that if you resign under the program, your salary and profit will be retained and you will be exempted from coming to work by 30 September. The email also explained how to resign. If you want to accept this proposal and resign, then answer your government email and type the word resignation and send it.
