Guwahati, 17 February (HS). Guwahati is all set to host the grand opening ceremony of the fourth edition of Khelo India University Games-2023 Ashtalakshmi. Assam's internationally renowned singer Angraag Mahant (Papon) will perform at the inaugural ceremony. This performance of the famous Papon will give an unforgettable pleasure to the audience and participants.
Assam Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa told a press conference on Saturday that Papon's inclusion will increase the attraction of the inauguration ceremony. Papon is India's youth icon and Guwahati will hear him live.
Khelo India University Games-2023 Ashtalakshmi will include 20 sports competitions. These competitions will be held at 18 venues in Guwahati and other North Eastern cities. Guwahati will host a total of 16 competitions. It will include a number of competitions including athletics, rugby, basketball, volleyball, swimming, badminton, hockey, fencing, kabaddi, women's football, tennis, mallakhambh, judo and table tennis.
Here, the unofficial Khelo India University Games 2023 Ashtalakshmi began with Kabaddi matches at the Sarusajai Stadium on Saturday. Eight teams are competing, divided into two pools.
Union Sports Minister Anurag will be involved
Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Singh Thakur and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will participate in the inauguration ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will motivate the athletes through a video message. This is the fourth edition of the games. Around 4500 athletes from 200 universities are participating in it.
