It has been observed many times during the cold season that the honey in some brands of honey glass settles down heavily. This raises the question in people’s minds whether it is fake honey or has sugar mixed in it. If you have such questions in your mind, then know whether honey frozen in winter is real or not.

meaning of frozen honey

If the honey in your honey jar has settled to the bottom, it is a sign that it is unpasteurized honey. The glucose and fructose present in it together form crystals, which freeze in cold. On giving slight heat to this honey, it returns back to liquid form. When honey is raw, it can completely solidify.

How to recognize the purity of honey

  1. consistency: Real honey is quite thick. When you place it on a flat surface, it stays in place like a solid. If there is water or any chemical mixed in it, it will become thin and start flowing from the surface.
  2. Bread Test: When you apply pure honey on bread, the bread does not become soft at all.
  3. Tissue Paper Test: Put a drop of honey on a tissue paper. If the honey is pure and the amount of water is negligible, the tissue is unable to absorb it and no trace of honey is visible.
  4. Cotton Test: To identify pure honey, dip it in cotton and burn it. Pure honey burns easily, whereas if there is water or adulteration in it, it becomes difficult to burn.

With these simple steps you can easily identify whether your honey is real or fake. Frozen honey in winter is not always a cause for concern, but can be an indication of its properties.
