The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee on Saturday announced the 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming five-match T20 series against England. In this team, experienced wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has been rested, while Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurail have been included as wicketkeeper batsmen. At the same time, fans have raised questions about Ishan Kishan’s name not being there. The selectors have once again ignored Kishan who has been out of the team for a long time.
Left-handed batsman Ishan Kishan played his last match for India in 2023 against Australia. After that, he decided to take a sudden break on the South Africa tour and has been out of the team since then. However, Kishan has scored two half-centuries in the last three innings in this shorter format of the game. But he also lost his central contract for not following the board’s instructions to play domestic cricket.
Ishan Kishan is working hard in domestic cricket to make a comeback in the Indian cricket team. He played a brilliant inning of 134 runs in 78 balls against Manipur in Vijay Hazare Trophy and scored 161 runs in 6 innings in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25. He has scored 796 runs in 32 T20 International matches at an average of 25.67, which includes 6 half-centuries.
The displeasure of the fans has increased due to Ishan Kishan not being named in the squad. One user wrote, “Is the wicketkeeper batsman’s career over?” While another said, “Ishaan should have got a chance instead of Dhruv Jurel.” Another user commented, “Ishan Kishan is better than the wicketkeeper batsmen in the team.”
India will host five T20 Internationals against England between January 22 and February 2 in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai. After this, three ODI matches will be played in Nagpur (6 February), Cuttack (9 February) and Ahmedabad (12 February).
