Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia will be officially elected to the post of BCCI Secretary and Treasurer respectively at the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be held on Sunday, January 12 in Mumbai. BCCI election officer and former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Achal Kumar Joti released the final list on Tuesday, in which Saikia and Bhatia have emerged as the only candidates. Due to this, there is a possibility of them getting approval.

Devjit Saikia has been working as the interim secretary of BCCI since Jay Shah became the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1. As per the BCCI constitution, any vacant post must be filled within 45 days by calling an SGM. Sunday marks the 43rd day of the term, ensuring that the positions of secretary and treasurer will be filled.

Earlier, Ashish Shelar was the treasurer of BCCI, but he resigned from this post after becoming a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. After this Prabhtej Singh Bhatia filed nomination for the post of Treasurer.

Election for these two posts will be the main agenda in SGM. ICC President Jay Shah will attend the meeting as a special invitee and will be felicitated by the BCCI state units. This will be Shah’s first visit to the BCCI office after replacing Greg Barclay as ICC chief last month, where he served as secretary for several years.
