Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway Route: To speed up development in Uttar Pradesh, the work of laying a network of new expressways is going on at a fast pace. In this series, work has started on the plan for construction of Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway. The construction of this expressway will bring a revolution in regional development and transportation. Let us understand every aspect of this ambitious project in detail.
Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway: Travel will be easy and fast
This expressway to be built from Gorakhpur to Siliguri will be approximately 700 kilometers long. After its construction, a journey of 15 hours will be completed in just 9 hours. It will pass through three districts of Uttar Pradesh—Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Deoria—covering a stretch of 115 kilometres.
- Time and fuel savings: Reduction in long distance travel time will also reduce fuel costs.
- Development will gain momentum: Regional industries, especially the factories set up in Gorakhpur, will get the benefit of reaching new markets.
Connectivity to Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh
This expressway also holds international importance. Siliguri in West Bengal, which is close to the borders of Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh, will be connected to Uttar Pradesh and Northeast India through Gorakhpur.
- Green Field Project: This will be a green field expressway, which will be built in an environment-friendly manner.
- New Survey: Earlier there was a proposal to connect it to Lucknow-Muzaffarpur Highway, but now it will be connected to the Link Expressway at Jaitpur.
3 districts will benefit the most
This expressway will have a 115 km stretch in Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Deoria districts.
- Farmers’ land: According to the new survey, land of about 115 villages of these districts will be acquired.
- Possibilities of new villages: After the survey, some more villages can also be included in it.
GIDA: Emerging Industrial Center of Eastern UP
Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) will get special benefit from this expressway.
- Industrial Expansion: Under GIDA, a new industrial area of 5500 hectares is proposed in Dhuriapar.
- Expansion of Factories: New industrial areas are being built along the Link Expressway.
- Big companies like PepsiCo: The establishment of factories near the Link Expressway is boosting employment and development in the area.
Champaran and Darbhanga will benefit
This expressway will go from Uttar Pradesh to Siliguri in West Bengal via Champaran, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Forbesganj in Bihar.
- Travel time reduced: The journey from Siliguri to Gorakhpur will be reduced from 15 hours to 8-9 hours.
- Growth Speed: The pace of development will be faster in backward districts like Champaran and Sitamarhi of Bihar.
- Pathway to Industries: The goods from the factories set up in Gida can be easily transported to Bihar, Bengal and Assam.
New beginnings: changes in the blueprint
In the initial proposal of this Green Belt Expressway, it was planned to start from Kushinagar and Deoria Highway in the eastern part of Gorakhpur city.
- Changes in Blueprint: After the new survey, it has been planned to start it from Jaitpur.
- Importance of Link Expressway: This link expressway will be connected to Muzaffarpur-Lucknow four lane.
The load of Gorakhpur-Muzaffarpur highway will be reduced.
This expressway will not only connect Uttar Pradesh and Northeast India, but will also reduce the traffic pressure on the Gorakhpur-Muzaffarpur Highway.
- Simple Transportation: This expressway will simplify traffic and help in freight transportation.
- Promotion of tourism: The number of tourists coming from Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh will increase.
