Recently a big update has come out regarding Indian wicketkeeper batsman KL Rahul. Earlier it was being said that he could be rested from the three-match ODI series against England. There was speculation that a new player would get a chance in his place, which could raise questions over his place for the Champions Trophy 2025. However, now there has been a U-turn in this matter, and the news is that KL Rahul will be given a chance to play in the ODI series.

What was the situation earlier?

Earlier reports had come quoting BCCI sources that KL Rahul would be rested in the ODI series. The logic behind this decision was that Rahul would get enough time before the Champions Trophy, whereas in the ODI series, some other player would take the opportunity to present his claim in his place.

It was also feared in the reports that if the player playing in the ODI series performed well, then Rahul might be dropped from the playing eleven of the Champions Trophy.

Why has the situation changed now?

Now, according to a report in Times of India (TOI), BCCI has approached KL Rahul to play in the ODI series. This means that Rahul will not only play the ODI series against England, but the possibility of his selection for the Champions Trophy 2025 is also confirmed.

Why will the team announcement for Champions Trophy 2025 be delayed?

The Indian team for the Champions Trophy is likely to be announced a little late. The main reason for this is the fitness of the players. Many of the key players of the Indian team, such as:

  • Jasprit Bumrah
  • Mohammed Shami
  • Kuldeep Yadav

The final decision on his fitness is still pending. BCCI is waiting for the fitness reports of these players. As soon as these players are declared 100% fit, the team for the Champions Trophy will be announced.

Why is this opportunity important for KL Rahul?

Getting a chance to play in the ODI series has ensured for KL Rahul that the team management and selectors have faith in him. This will not only boost his confidence but will also almost ensure his place in the playing eleven for the Champions Trophy.
