Archie Vaughan, son of former England captain Michael Vaughan, has been appointed captain of the England Under-19 team. He will lead the team on the South Africa tour, which includes three Youth ODI Internationals and two Youth Test matches. This tour will start from January 17. Somerset all-rounder Archie has been rewarded for his excellent performance.
Archie Vaughan’s cricket journey
Archie signed his first professional contract with Somerset in May 2023. He performed well for Somerset in the County Championship, where he played four first-class matches. His average in batting was 33.71, while in bowling he took 15 wickets, including two five-wicket hauls. Following his debut for Somerset in July 2023, he had impressive performances in the red ball and 50-over formats.
Archie’s reaction on captaincy
On getting the captaincy, Archie said,
“I got the news during the training camp before Christmas, and it was a very special moment for me. “It is already an honor to represent England at this level, but to lead the team is even more special.”
Archie said on his journey to success,
“If someone had told me 12 months ago that I would be playing in the Somerset first team and captaining the Under-19 side, I would have thought it impossible. This has all happened very fast, but I will continue to work hard and keep myself grounded.”
England youth team on South Africa tour
The England Under-19 team, led by Archie Vaughan, is ready to showcase its potential in South Africa. This tour will not only test Archie’s leadership skills but will also give him an opportunity to showcase his talent on the international stage.
