Sharp reaction to BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s statement ‘Did not say anything about his cheeks’

Tibet Earthquake

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken a sharp dig at the controversial remarks of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri. On Wednesday, he termed it as “ridiculous and irrelevant” and said that instead of discussing such issues in the Delhi Assembly elections, the focus should be on the real and important questions of the public.

Priyanka Gandhi’s taunt: ‘Didn’t say anything about your cheeks’

While talking to reporters on Ramesh Bidhuri’s remarks during the ongoing assembly elections in Delhi, Priyanka Gandhi said sarcastically,

“She (Bidhuri) did not say anything about her cheeks.”

Priyanka Gandhi termed this statement as “ridiculous” and irrelevant in the context of elections. He said that at a time when the people of Delhi expect better governance and discussion on fundamental issues, such statements only serve to divert attention.

What was the controversial statement of Ramesh Bidhuri?

BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri, who is contesting from Kalkaji assembly constituency, had recently said at a rally,

“We will make all the roads of Kalkaji like the cheeks of Priyanka Gandhi. Lalu Yadav had said that he would build roads like Hema Malini’s cheeks in Bihar, but he could not do so. But I assure you that we will make the roads of Kalkaji as smooth as the cheeks of Priyanka Gandhi.”

Bidhuri expressed regret after the controversy

This statement was followed by heavy criticism from political and social sections.

  • Congress termed it “anti-women and indecent”.
  • The public also condemned it as an irresponsible statement.

After criticism increased, Bidhuri expressed regret over her comment and said that her intention was not to insult anyone.

Priyanka Gandhi raised questions on important issues

Priyanka Gandhi, reacting to this statement, said that such statements only make the election debate irrelevant. He said,

“Elections are being held in Delhi. People should discuss basic problems like roads, water, education, health. But BJP leaders are trying to divert public attention by making unnecessary statements.”

Sharp reaction from political opponents

  • Congress leaders termed this statement as an insult to women and demanded action from BJP against Bidhuri.
  • Other opposition leaders described it as an “attempt to divert from election issues”.

Question on dignity of public comments

This statement has come at a time when political parties claim their commitment to women empowerment and public decorum.

  • Such controversial statements raise questions on the thinking of leaders regarding women.
  • This incident once again underlines the need to maintain decency and decorum in politics.
