The political atmosphere is heated regarding Delhi Assembly elections. Meanwhile, former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has given a big statement saying that he is hopeful that Arvind Kejriwal will win this election. He also stressed on the role of Congress and said that the party will contest the elections with full strength. However, Chavan admitted that if there had been an alliance between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the result could have been better.
In an interview to IANS, Chavan said, “Delhi elections are very important. I am confident that Kejriwal will win, but Congress will also contest the elections strongly.” He also admitted that there was a need for an alliance between Congress and AAP, but it was not possible.
SP and TMC support you
Arvind Kejriwal has received the support of two important parties of the opposition India alliance, Samajwadi Party (SP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC). SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said, “We will support whoever defeats BJP. Congress organization is weak in Delhi, that is why SP is with AAP.” At the same time, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh also said that he is hopeful that Kejriwal will form the government once again.
Congress is alone in the election field
This time Congress is contesting the elections without any alliance. The party’s performance in the 2020 assembly elections was poor, and this time too it is facing a tough challenge. After AAP got the support of SP and TMC, the situation has become more difficult for Congress. Questions are being raised on the leadership of Congress even within the India alliance. Many leaders, like Mamata Banerjee and Sharad Pawar, are demanding to remove the leadership of the alliance from Congress and hand it over to Mamata Banerjee.
Delhi election dates
Voting for Delhi’s 70 assembly seats will be held on February 5, and the results will be declared on February 8. The contest will mainly be triangular between BJP, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. Last time, AAP had registered a massive victory, but this time the contest has become interesting due to the unity of the opposition parties.
