In a major decision, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to dissolve the ad-hoc committee that handles the day-to-day functioning of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI). The Union Sports Ministry had a few days ago suspended the federation's new committee for violating the rules of the Sports Code of Conduct, following which the IOA had formed an ad-hoc committee to manage the federation.
The IOA said the ad-hoc committee, in collaboration with the wrestling federation, successfully conducted the selection trials for the Olympic qualification tournament next month. The trials for men's and women's categories were held under the supervision of an ad-hoc committee. Among men, Bajrang had to face defeat. Vinesh Phogat won the women's 50 kg category after drama. After the trial is over, the reins have been handed over to the Wrestling Federation again. The IOA has mandated the formation of a safety committee to address concerns over issues such as sexual harassment and compliance. Federation President Sanjay Singh welcomed the decision of the Indian Olympic Association.
