Third season likely to be held in Baroda and Lucknow

The third edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is going to start next month. This time there is a plan to organize the tournament in two phases in Baroda and Lucknow. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has shortlisted these two cities for hosting.

Possible dates and format of the tournament

The third season of WPL 2024 is likely to start from February 6 or 7.

  • The final of the tournament can be played around March 8-9.
  • A total of 23 matches will be organized.

This time Baroda is in the running to host the second phase matches including the final.

BCCI’s preparations and selection of cities

As per Cricbuzz report:

  • BCCI has held informal discussions with Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and Baroda Cricket Association (BCA).
  • Baroda’s Kotambi Stadium, which has recently been renovated as per international standards, could be the main venue for the tournament.

Recent history of Baroda Stadium

  • The stadium was inaugurated last month when the India women’s team played a three-match ODI series against the West Indies.
  • Senior Women’s T20 tournament and Ranji Trophy matches have already been organized on this ground.

reason to host

  • A total of five teams participate in the WPL.
  • These cities have been selected to give hosting opportunities to teams from Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh.

  • First season: The entire tournament was held in Mumbai.
  • Second season: Bengaluru and Delhi hosted.
