New Delhi: The dates for Delhi Assembly elections have been announced. Voting will be held on all 70 seats of Delhi Assembly on 5 February. When the election results will be declared on 8th February. The voting process will be completed on all seats in a single phase. The last date for filing nomination papers is January 17, along with this, by-elections will also be held in Milkipur in Uttar Pradesh and Erode in Tamil Nadu on February 5.
There are a total of 70 seats in the Delhi Assembly, out of which 58 are general and 12 are reserved. The total number of voters is 1.55 crore which includes 83.49 lakh male and 71.74 lakh female voters. Apart from this, there are 1261 transgender voters. Of the total voters, there are 2.5 lakh youth voters, about two lakh youth will vote for the first time. This information was given by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. He said that due to snowfall in two assembly seats of Jammu and Kashmir, Budgam and Nagrota, elections will not be held at present, for which the by-election dates will be announced separately later. Apart from this, by-elections are also to be held on Basirhat seat of Bengal and Visavadar seat of Gujarat, however, due to pending election petitions on both the seats, we cannot take any decision at the moment.
More than 13 thousand polling stations will be prepared to carry out the voting process in Delhi. Earlier in the assembly elections held in 2020, Aam Aadmi Party had got 62 seats, BJP had got eight seats and Congress had got no seats. At present, both Aam Aadmi Party and BJP are campaigning vigorously to capture the throne of Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal and Chief Minister Atishi are attacking BJP leaders.
When the election dates were announced, Chief Minister Atishi attacked BJP in a press conference. He said that BJP has snatched my residence from me twice in three months. If needed, I will stay in the houses of Delhiites but will not stop the work of Delhiites. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is accusing Kejriwal of building Sheesh Mahal for himself.
