Election Commission removes Bengal Police Chief, seeks 3 names for new DGP

As soon as the dates of Lok Sabha elections were announced, the Election Commission has taken some big decisions. The Election Commission has also ordered the removal of the Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal. Also, the Election Commission has sought names of three officers who will be appointed as the new police chief (DGP) of the state by 5 pm today. The Commission took this step on Monday to ensure level playing field in the Lok Sabha elections.

TMC leader alleged

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh has made serious allegations against BJP regarding the removal of the state DGP. He said that BJP is doing all this to fulfill its political objective. Therefore, he has taken these steps as per his programme, as per his plan and at the behest of various states. Ghosh said, 'He is busy helping his state association. They know that BJP will lose most of the seats in West Bengal elections. Their organization is very weak. We are full of confidence. BJP can definitely change some officials but the public is with Trinamool Congress and Didi. TMC is going to defeat BJP again.

Order to remove state home secretaries

The Election Commission has also ordered the removal of Home Secretaries of Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The Commission directed all state governments to transfer those officers engaged in election related work who have completed 3 years (in post) or are posted in their home district. Maharashtra did not comply with the instructions in respect of some Municipal Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners.

Elections in 7 phases on 42 Lok Sabha seats of Bengal

It is noteworthy that elections will be held in 7 phases for 42 Lok Sabha seats of West Bengal. There are a total of 7.58 crore voters in the state, of which about 3.85 crore are male and 3.73 crore are female voters. There are about 15.25 lakh voters who will vote for the first time. Out of 42 seats in Bengal, 10 are reserved for Scheduled Caste and 2 seats are reserved for Scheduled Tribe. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool Congress got 22 seats, BJP 18 and Congress two seats.
