In the present times many people are suffering from protein deficiency, which is causing problems like muscle weakness, weak immune system and even hindering the overall development of the body. While a protein-rich diet is often recommended to avoid protein deficiency, some people reduce protein intake due to concerns about fat, which can contribute to various health problems. Today we will discuss about those five diseases which can occur due to protein deficiency.
Kwashiorkor:
Kwashiorkor is a disease caused by protein deficiency. It hinders proper growth, causes swelling in the legs, and causes loss of skin pigmentation as well as thinning of hair.
Marasmus:
Marasmus is another form of malnutrition in which there is a deficiency of both calories and protein. Rapid weight loss, muscle weakness, stunted growth and weak immune system are its common symptoms.
Edema:
Edema, or fluid retention, can be caused by protein deficiency, especially in the arms, legs, and abdomen. This condition is caused by low oncotic pressure, which normally helps maintain fluid balance within blood vessels.
Delay in wound healing:
Protein is important for tissue repair and wound healing. Inadequate protein intake can delay wound healing, making it challenging for the body to recover from injuries or surgical procedures.
Weakness and fatigue:
Protein deficiency can lead to muscle weakness, fatigue and low energy levels. Since muscles depend on protein for maintenance and function, inadequate protein intake can lead to overall physical weakness.
